Ground Control to Major Mark
Ground Control to Major Mark
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Mark
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check transmission and may God’s love be with you

Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Lift-off

This is Ground Control to Major Mark
You’ve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it’s time to leave the ground if you dare

This is Major Mark to Ground Control
I’m climbing to the sky
And I’m floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
am I floating on my steel bike
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do

Though I’m past four thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And I think my bicycle knows which way to go
Tell my mom I love her very much (she knows!)
Ground Control to Major Mark
Your circuit’s dead, there’s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Mark?
Can you hear me, Major Mark?
Can you hear me, Major Mark?
Can you hear....

am I sitting on my steel bike
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do?

What I am trying to say is that I am currently on the Alti-plano in Bolivia where the average altitude is 4000ms. The www connects here are poor, wifi is scarce and cibercafes mostly only load Internet Explorer 6, which is useless as my site is not compatible with old IE versions. Thus, my 'circuit is dead' and 'there is nothing I can do' in terms of updates etc. I will post where I can and if I can find a good place I may schedule entries to keep the site ticking over.

May the Bolivian sky not fall on my head

Marco

Hola Major Marco ;o)
... this is Himalaya mountain control from Kathmandu. Great trip you're on!! Looks like you're going up the same route I've come down from La Paz via Potosi, Tupiza, Tilcara (YES I've been there too), Salta and Tucuma in 2005. Apart from going down I had the additional comfort to sit in a 4x4 Landcruiser that I drove my self together with a friend.
Don't miss Tupiza and the ...*erm* ... "penis canyon" ;o) ... and of course: Salar de Uyuni!! Good luck my friend, take care ... y disfruta-lo !!
I'll go to Tibet again after May 17 - Mount Kailash is calling ;o)
